I was born in
East L.A. in 1938. We moved to South Gate in 1948 where I started the
fifth grade at Bryson… We lived on Jackson Ave, just south of the
park…
My father had
just started his own business on Otis and Firestone Blvd called Square
Deal Machine Co and he became very involved in civic affairs through the
Kiwanis Club...
During
my high school years I worked first for JJ.Newberrys in Huntington Park
for fifty cents an hour, then at Bullocks Wilshire where I spent nearly
every penny I made on clothes… After that I went to work at St Francis
Hospital, a job I enjoyed very much as everyday was different and sick
people are always grateful for what you do for them…
In
high school I was active in a YMCA club called the Vagabonds, Rainbow
Girls, Ramblerettes and sports nite.
My
first marriage was for 22 years and we had 3 children, two girls and a
boy… They have blessed me with 8 grand children... I have enclosed a
picture of my grand children at my 60th birthday party where
one of my grand children put his finger in the birthday cake…
I was a “stay
at home” mom for 18 years and was very active in P.T.A. in my
children’s schools… I was president three times and received a
Honorary Lifetime Membership for my years of service… Then as my
marriage was going on the rocks, I decided it was time for me to go back
to work… I worked for two paper companies, Blake, Moffett & Towne,
and then I went to work for Butler Paper, where I became salesman of the
year, nationwide for them…
Today,
I am happily married to Hugh Edey, going on 15 years… We first met at
our 30th High School Reunion… At that time I had been
single for 10 years when we met, and he was just going through a divorce
after being married for 26 years…
My
favorite hobby is oil painting… I do landscapes, flowers, animals and
my newest endeavor is people… I
have enclosed one of my favorites, a picture of a tiger…
Now you know
everything there is to know about me… Doris Edey
